HOW IT WORKS
1
SUBMIT CAPTAIN FORM
To rent as a "bareboat captain," we require you to provide details about your boating experience. This information helps us determine whether you are qualified to use the boat in and around the waters of North Captiva Island. The PRIMARY CAPTAIN of the vessel should fill out this form. Any damage or liability resulting in the operation of the vessel is the responsibility of the PRIMARY CAPTAIN.
2
BUOY INSURANCE
BUOY is a new Peer to Peer boat insurance. GYBR uses BUOY to allow our renters to have a policy while renting the DORADO 23. Floria law requires that renters have access to an insurance policy. We chose BUOY because they only charge renters for the time they spend on the water. The single highest cost in the boat rental market is insurance. With BUOY you can manage the cost similar to the gas you burn.
3
SELECT PACKAGE
Once the Primary Captain has been approved, select any additional gear or equipment you would like to use during your rental period. When you pick up the boat, our Managing Captain Kale will walk you through all vessel operations and show you where all emergency equipment is housed on the boat. Your fishing or adventure gear will be either on the boat or be available at the house on North Cap.

FLORIDA BOATING LAWS
It violates Florida law to operate a vessel while impaired by alcohol or other drugs. A vessel operator suspected of boating under the influence must submit to sobriety tests and a physical or chemical test to determine blood- or breath-alcohol content. In Florida, a vessel operator is presumed to be under the influence if their blood- or breath-alcohol level is at or above .08.
Effective April 1, 2021, operators of certain vessels under 26 feet long MUST use either a helm or outboard lanyard or wireless ECOS when traveling on plane or above displacement speed.
RENTAL DETAILS
SECURITY DEPOSIT
A security deposit for all bookings is held on your card to cover any incidental costs, damages, or lost items. Please complete the check-in and check-out process with the owner or captain to verify the boat’s condition and detail any damages during the booking. A minimum $1,500 security deposit hold (not a charge) will be placed on your credit card 48 hours before the booking starts to cover any incidental damage that may occur during the booking. This hold is released 48 hours after the booking is complete if no damages are reported. The hold will appear on your statement as a pending transaction. Once the hold is released, the pending transaction should disappear from your statement.
Per BUOY's terms and conditions, Renters are liable for up to $5,000 in damages, including using their initial security deposit. If damage or loss is reported, your deposit will be captured and held until the claim investigation has concluded. If the repair costs exceed your captured deposit, your card on file will be charged the difference. Any funds unused from the deposit or the deductible to cover damages will be refunded upon completion of the investigation.
PAYMENT SCHEDULE
GWBR uses the following payment schedule:
-
No deposit is taken at the time of the booking; however, a 10% non-refundable first payment is made one week prior to the arrival date. Any cancellations made after that time will not be refunded.
CHECK-IN AND CHECK-OUT
You will complete the check-in and check-out process with the owner, the captain, or the owner’s designated agent. Be sure to complete this process together before the boat departs and after the conclusion of your booking.
Check-in is coordinated between the designated agent and guest based on the agreed-upon check-in time. Any change to the time of pick-up on the day of booking may not be able to be accommodated. Still, Our agent will make an effort to make alternative arrangements at the discretion of the designated agent.
Check-out is also coordinated one week prior to the check-in. Please be sure to update your booking details if there are any changes to your logistics as early in the rental period as possible. No extension of the rental period will be allowed unless agreed to by the owners of GWBR prior to the rental.

SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHALL THE BOAT BE TAKEN OUT IF A SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IS ISSUED BY NOAA OR IF THE OWNERS OR DESIGNATED AGENT NOTIFIES THE RENTER OF IMMINENT DANGEROUS WEATHER CONDITIONS. IN THE EVENT THAT THERE IS A RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER ON THE DAY OF CHECK-OUT THAT WOULD REQUIRE THE BOAT TO BE USED DURING POTENTIAL SEVERE WEATHER, THE OWNER OR DESIGNATED AGENT, UNDER THEIR SOLE DISCRETION, MAY ALTER THE RETURN POLICY AND MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO PROVIDE SAFE ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION. THIS INCLUDES MOVING THE CHECK-IN PROCESS UP TO A TIME SAFE FOR ALL PARTIES.
PRICE BREAKDOWN AND FEES
The items below contribute to the total cost of the booking.
Boat price
This is the package price the owner sets for a booking.
Captain fee
All bookings with a captain are negotiated and paid directly with the captain, including any agreed-upon fees or gratuity.
Cleaning Service fee
A cleaning service fee is charged on each rental. This ensures that every boater has a clean boat upon their arrival. If excessive cleaning (full boat detail) is required due to the condition of the boat upon its return, a fee of $750 will be deducted from the security deposit to cover the boat detailing. Hoses and cleaning supplies are available on all rentals. Renters are encouraged to maintain the boat's condition after each daily use, especially if blood, bait, or other materials, such as food or beverages, are on the flooring or cushions.
BUOY Renter insurance fee
It is mandatory to rent the Dorado 23 that the renter has BUOY insurance for the duration of their time on the water. Should the renter use the boat without any BUOY coverage in effect, the guests will lose $500 of their security deposit. If the renter fails to have coverage for more than one trip, they will lose the entirety of their security deposit or will be charged $1,500.00 should any additional fees already apply.
Taxes
Florida requires GWBR to collect 6.5% sales tax for boat rentals. This fee is charged on the boat fee and any additional gear package charges.
Security deposit
A security deposit is held on the renter’s card to cover incidental damage, charges, and/or lost items. The hold is placed on the card 48 hours before the rental and is released 48 hours following the conclusion of the rental if no damage claim has been filed. It may take 10+ business days for your statement to reflect the release of the deposit.
Refueling fee
Upon checkout, the boat will be refueled, and the total cost of $6/gallon ($6/gal = Current cost/gallon + refueling fee) will be charged for the fuel used. The boat's fuel gauges are NOT used to measure the actual fuel consumed; they are an estimate to provide a captain with a cruising range for the boat. The actual fuel used may differ significantly from the gauge's estimated value in some cases.
The renter's card will be billed for the fuel used, and a picture of the receipt plus the refueling fee will be sent via email. If the renter is present during refueling, they may pay for fuel directly at the pump.
Gear Package fee
An additional rate will be charged based on the gear selected, and specific packages may require an additional security deposit hold. GWBR will inform all renters at the time of their booking about any and all additional fees and security deposit requirements.
